SIBU: A 30-year-old man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after admitting to his involvement in the theft of a Toyota Hilux belonging to a tyre and battery service company.
The accused, Lim Chit Leong from Saratok, was sentenced by Magistrate Romario Jonoi after pleaded guilty to the charge.
The sentence is to take effect from Feb 20, 2026, the date of his remand.
Lim was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, for jointly committing the theft with another person for a Toyota Hilux belonging to Lian Soon Tyres & Battery Services Sdn Bhd.
According to the facts of the case, the vehicle was discovered missing at about 1.52 am on Jan 12, 2026, after it had been parked in front of the company’s premises.
The company subsequently reported the theft to police, with the vehicle estimated to be worth RM18,000.
Lim was arrested on Jan 15, 2026, at about 6.15 pm at a car park at Jalan Aup by a team of police led by Insp Aminur Rizwan.
Investigations later established that Lim, together with another person, had admitted to stealing the vehicle.
