MIRI: A local man was killed instantly when a car crashed into his motorcycle at the Jalan Lorong Cahaya 2 junction last night (Aug 20).
The 34-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was taken to Miri Hospital’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that the accident occurred at around 10 pm when the victim had stopped at the junction near Miri Hospital.
“Investigations found that a Perodua Myvi travelling from Bakam towards Taman Lopeng, is believed to have lost control and crashed into the victim’s motorcycle.
“The impact caused the victim to sustain severe injuries and he died on the spot,” he said in a statement.
Preliminary findings suggested driver negligence while turning as the cause of the accident.
Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Those who witnessed the accident are urged to come forward and assist with investigations by contacting traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-8582582, 085-430479 or go to the nearest police station.
