MIRI: A 39-year old man was killed after his vehicle slammed into a roadworks lorry on a bridge here early this morning.
Firefighters were called to Lutong Bridge just after midnight, where a Toyota Hilux had crashed into the rear of a lorry carrying out resurfacing works.
On arrival, rescuers found the driver trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Bomba personnel used hydraulic cutting equipment to force open the driver’s side door and extricate him from the wreckage.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The victim has been identified as Felix Enteri Lanjan. His body was later handed over to police.
The operation, involving five firefighters and a single engine from Lutong fire station, lasted just over an hour. Police and health officials were also at the scene.
Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the crash or whether safety measures were in place at the roadworks site.
