Man killed after pickup plunges into ravine

MARUDI: A man was killed after the pickup truck he was in plunged about 15 metres into a ravine at Kem Pelutan, Ulu Baram, here early this morning (Feb 24).

The Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (Bomba) received the emergency call at 12.49am and arrived at the location at 7.50 am after travelling approximately 220 kilometres.

Upon arrival, firefighters descended into the ravine using safety ropes and found a man trapped inside the vehicle.

He was extricated and brought up to the roadside on a stretcher before being taken to a nearby clinic, where he was confirmed dead.

The victim was identified as Wan Anyi.

Meanwhile, his wife, Ijan Jok, 46, had earlier been rescued by workers at Kem Pelutan and was taken to Long San clinic for further treatment.

She was reported to be in stable condition.
