MIRI: One man was confirmed dead while another was injured after a pickup truck plunged into a ravine along Jalan Samling Kilometer 10, Lopeng, last night (Feb 5).
The victim who died was later identified as 32-year-old local man Rudi Kassim, while the other, an Indonesian national, sustained injuries and survived.
The incident involving a Toyota single-cab vehicle carrying two men was reported at about 7pm.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the location was only accessible via logging roads, with the journey to the site estimated to take more than four hours from the Lopeng station.
Firefighters were later informed that both victims had been removed from the vehicle by members of the public before their arrival, prompting the team to stand down and hand the case over to police.
Bomba later confirmed that Rudi was taken to Hospital Marudi by representatives from the company that he was with. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
