KABONG: A 42-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident at Kilometre 1, Jalan Gerigat-Jalan Nyabor here on Thursday night.

Saratok District Police chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said the incident occurred at 10:28 pm, involving two motorcycles – a Yamaha and a Honda – as well as an unidentified car.

He said the accident happened when the Yamaha motorcycle rider, an oil plantation worker, was on his way back to Kampung Nyabor.

“As he approached the area, he was unable to avoid a Honda motorcycle that was lying across the lane heading towards Nyabor, and collided with the back of the fallen Honda motorcycle.

“He had also sustained injuries on the head and right hand,” he said in a statement.

Mathew said the Honda motorcycle rider, a fisherman, was found lying on the road in the direction of Kampung Gerigat, and is believed to have been hit by an unknown car that fled the scene.

“The impact of the collision caused the fisherman to suffer injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.

Police are now investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
