SIBU: Police have arrested a local man in connection with an assault case involving another man along Jalan Rantau Panjang here.
A video of the injured victim at the scene of the incident, which occurred on Tuesday (October 14), had gone viral on social media.
The victim was found lying on the roadside after allegedly being beaten by several individuals.
He was later taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition.
Sibu Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, said following the incident, the 47-year-old suspect was taken into custody.
“He will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
“If convicted, the offence carries imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine,” he said in a statement today.
Zulkipli also urged the public not to speculate or share the video, as such actions could disrupt ongoing investigation.
