SARATOK: A man was nabbed by police for abusing his six-year-old daughter, causing injury on the face and limbs.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the complainant, who is the child’s mother reported the abuse to the police on Feb 26.

He added that the abuse took place in front of the complainant’s home and were also witnessed by surrounding neighbours.

“The incident happened on Feb 25 when the suspect came and toss the six-year-old victim into a drain.

“This caused the victim to sustain injuries on her right eyes and bruises on her left thigh.

“Surrounding neighbours as well as the victim’s twin witnessed the incident. Fearing for the victim’s safety, the mother has lodged a police report on the suspect,” he said.

The police were also informed that both the complainant and the suspect are no longer living together and in the process of getting a divorce.

Initial investigations found that the suspect was under the influence of illegal substances, believed to be amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Medical officials examined and treated the victim’s injuries, bruises on her right eye lid and left thigh, indicating the injuries were recent.

The case is classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

The victim points to where the incident took place.
