Man nabbed for robbing store, sprays victim with pepper

KUCHING: Police have arrested a local man in connection with a robbery of essential items from a convenience store in Satok recently.

The suspect was picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at 12.56 am in Taman Iris on Saturday.

He is being remanded for four days until Dec 3 to facilitate investigations into the case.

It was reported that the incident occurred the day before when a 28-year-old female worker was approached by an unknown man in the premises.

The suspect asked if he could use the MyKasih assistance and selected several essential items, including ground pepper.

He then grabbed a handful of pepper and sprayed it into her face, causing eye irritation, before fleeing with the items worth around RM137.

A police report was lodged for further action.

Further checks on the CCTV footage found that the suspect was driving a Perodua Alza, later identified as belonging to an acquaintance.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning, if convicted.
