BAU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested a local man for transporting 6,250kg of rice sacks without valid documentation last Saturday (July 19).
In the operation carried out around 2 pm, the GOF 11th Battalion’s Intelligence Branch intercepted a lorry suspected of carrying rice without a permit.
Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said a 40-year-old lorry driver was detained in the operation.
“Further inspections led to the discovery of sacks of rice weighing 6,250kg.
“The rice along with the lorry is estimated at RM232,500, based on market price,” he said.
Che Ghazali said the suspect and seizures have been handed over to the Paddy and Rice Regulatory Division Kuching branch for further actions.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Paddy and Rice Act 1994 (Act 522).
From January 1 to July 21 this year, the Sarawak GOF Brigade has recorded enforcement success amounting to RM298.1 million, involving 282 cases, 384 arrests, and the seizure of 211 vehicles.
