BINTANGOR: A routine Op Tapis patrol turned into a drug arrest when police detained a 34-year-old man in the Bintangor area after he was suspected of being involved in drug-related activities.

Meradong district police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the arrest was carried out at about 12 noon on Apr 7 by the Task Force team from the the district police eadquarters (IPD).

“The suspect was subsequently taken to IPD Meradong for further action.

“Following a urine screening conducted at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Branch office, the man tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,” he said in a statement.

Tansli added that checks further revealed that the suspect, classified as a first-time offender (B1), has no prior criminal or drug-related record.

“He is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction,” he added.

He stressed that drug-related offences remain a serious concern and reiterated that enforcement actions will continue without compromise.

The public is urged to channel any information related to drug activities in the district to the authorities.
