KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here on Thursday (March 6) for threatening to kill his older brother after failing to obtain money from their mother, who was preparing food for breaking fast at the time.

Fikri Masdi, 25, from Kampung Paya Mebi, pleaded guilty to the charge read by the court interpreter before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by threatening to kill his 31-year-old brother while brandishing a machete.

The offence was committed at their home in Kampung Paya Mebi, Jalan Landeh, at around 6.30pm on March 2.

According to the case facts, on the day of the incident, the complainant and his mother were preparing food for breaking fast when the accused approached the front door and asked their mother for money.

However, their mother told him that she had no money to give.

The complainant then advised the accused to wait until after breaking fast, but the accused was unsatisfied with the response.

Enraged by the refusal, the accused retrieved a machete from his car and returned to confront the complainant.

Fearing for their safety, the complainant and his mother quickly shut and locked the doors and windows of the house.

In his anger, the accused repeatedly struck the door with the machete, and at one point, the blade slipped through the door gap, injuring the complainant’s wrist.

The accused also shouted threats outside the house, saying, “Palak kau ku tetak ku kelak, kau ku bunuh ku. Aku tok samseng! (I will slash your head later, I will kill you. I am a gangster).”

Fearing for their safety, the complainant filed a police report, which led to the accused’s arrest.

The machete used during the incident was also seized.

Investigations confirmed that the accused had issued death threats against his brother, causing the complainant to feel endangered and fearful.
