BAU: A bus driver suffered bruises around his left eye after he was allegedly punched by a man angered by demands to return a rented motorcycle and settle outstanding rental payments.

The incident occurred outside a grocery store in Kampung Stass at around 9.40pm last Saturday (May 30).

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the 50-year-old victim was chatting with friends when the suspect, a 40-year-old man known locally as “Akuk”, allegedly approached him and punched him once in the face.

Investigations found that the suspect was allegedly upset after being asked to return a motorcycle he had rented and for which rental payments had not been made.

“The victim did not retaliate and instead went into the grocery store following the assault.

“He later lodged a police report and received treatment for bruising to his left eye,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Mohd Haide said police have identified the suspect and efforts are underway to locate him.
