KUALA LUMPUR: man was arrested last night on suspicion of being involved in breaking vehicle windows using spark plugs in parking areas to steal items inside.

Sentul district police chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the 22-year-old local suspect was arrested in Damansara, Selangor at about 8.30 pm last night while initial investigations found that the suspect had six previous criminal records and one drug crime record.

According to him, the operation to arrest the suspect was carried out following a police report received last Tuesday from a victim whose car window was broken while parked at Kepong Baru MRT parking lot.

“The police also managed to seize several items belonging to the victim, namely a mobile phone, a watch, five Touch ’n Go cards, a battery charger unit and the clothes used by the suspect when committing the crime.

“The suspect’s modus operandi is to target quiet car park at MRT stations. Among the tools used in committing the crime were ceramic fragments from spark plugs,” he said in a statement here, today.

Police believe that six related cases previously reported have been resolved with the arrest of the suspect and the interrogation process is still continuing to complete the investigation papers before being referred to the deputy public prosecutor for charges, he said.
