Man who stole from senior citizen sent to prison

SIBU: A 30-year-old man was ordered to spend four months behind bars here Tuesday (Jan 13) for stealing a bag containing RM2,300 and personal documents from an elderly man.

Harif Abdullah from Kampung Pa’dris pleaded guilty to the charge read and explained to him though an interpreter at the Magistrate’s Court.

He had stolen the bag belonging to one Chai Ling, 68, at Dian Dian cafe along Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg on April 20,2024 at about 8.40 pm.

He used the stolen cash to pay for his motorcycle installment, house rent, to purchase a second-hand refrigerator and also to give his wife some money.

The offence framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, provides for an imprisonment of up to 10 years as well as liable to a fine, upon conviction.

Harif was arrested on Jan 6 this year by police at a house at Bahagia Tengah 16.
