KUCHING: Narcotics police has arrested a local man with a history of drug offences for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine worth RM606 today.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 41-year-old suspect was detained during inspections at around 3pm in Kampung Bintawa.
It led to the discovery and seizure of 11 plastic packets containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 5.51g.
“The suspect’s initial urine test returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks also found that he had three previous convictions under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
The suspect is being remanded for four days until Dec 20 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Upon conviction, the offence provides for imprisonment of up to five years and up to nine lashes.
He added that the operation’s success was driven by continuous intelligence-gathering efforts and strong cooperation from the public.
“Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities, as possessing, trafficking or protecting such activities are serious offences under the law.
“The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) assured that they committed in combating drugs to safeguard present and future generations,” he said.
