Man with prior theft records arrested for shoplifting

SIBU: A local man was arrested for allegedly stealing items worth RM42 from a home improvement store at Wisma Sanyan on Monday (Nov 25).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said they were alerted to the incident at around 12.30 pm and a team was dispatched to the scene.

The 30-year-old suspect was arrested on the spot, and the stolen items were recovered.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to the police station and background checks revealed that he had three prior theft-related offences.

Zulkipli added that the suspect is being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Upon conviction, the suspect could face imprisonment for a term of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
