SIBU: A late-night drive turned fatal for a local man who lost his life after allegedly speeding along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit on Saturday (Feb 22).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the fatal accident occurred around 11 pm and involved a Perodua Kancil.

“Investigations suggest the driver was traveling at high speed before losing control of the vehicle.

“His car skidded onto the road divider, crashed into an electric pole and a street lamp post, before overturning on the left side of the road,” he said in a statement.

Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His body was later sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
