KUCHING: Andy Yeo Jia Wei emerged as the champion in the men’s open 10-kilometre (km) category at the 20th MAPPA Run, while Lim Siet Fah claimed the top spot in the women’s open.

Yeo outran Sunny Jong and Tan Xian Wen, who finished second and third respectively in the men’s open.

The 28-year-old from Kuching told Sarawak Tribune that he has been running for 11 years, training six days a week and averaging between 100 to 120 km weekly.

“I run at least 15 to 18 km a day. My next race after this is the Score Marathon, where I’ll be running the full 42 kilometres,” said Yeo, who clocked 35 minutes in the 10 km race.

In the women’s open, Lim Siaw Yin came in second while Chan Hui Xie finished third.

In the men’s veteran 10 km category, Mohamad Sharif clinched first place, followed by Rajali Samar and Tan Jit Ping in second and third.

The women’s veteran 10 km category was won by Lee Ley Mei, who has been running since primary school.

“I clocked 48:30 for the 10 kilometres. I run four times a week, around 10 to 15 kilometres.

“I ran actively from primary school until I was 23, then picked it up again seven years ago,” said the 47-year-old from Sibu.

Ng Bee Lian finished second in the category, followed by Wendy Ng Hui Ling in third.

All first-place winners received RM600 in cash; second-place winners received RM500; and third-place winners earned RM400 – each accompanied by a medal.

For the record, the MAPPA Run XX 2025 Sarawak was the first edition organised by INTAN Sarawak Regional Campus, in collaboration with various federal and state government agencies, and supported by the private sector.

It marked the third leg of the MAPPA Run series, following earlier editions in Kuantan, Pahang, and Batu Kawan, Penang – both of which also saw overwhelming participation of over 2,500 runners comprising civil servants and members of the public.

The event successfully championed its core objectives: to promote well-being, health, and stronger ties between the public service and the community.

The programme was graced by National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), Director Datuk Dr Mohd Zabri Yusof, and Deputy Director-General of Public Services (Development), Datuk Dr Mohd Bakhari Ismail.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Federal Secretary of Sarawak, Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan; Deputy State Secretary (Operations), Datuk Hii Chang Kee; and INTAN Sarawak Regional Campus Director, Masitah Annuar.
