LUNDU: MARA has allocated RM49 million to support 1,156 entrepreneurs in Sarawak this year, with six Lundu entrepreneurs on Saturday (June 27) receiving assistance worth RM1.425 million.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said the allocation covers business financing, training and matching grants for entrepreneurship development.

She was speaking at the launch of the MARA Women and Community Empowerment Programme 2026, held for the first time in Lundu on Saturday, themed ‘Wanita & Komuniti Memperkasa Keusahawanan’ (Women & Communities Empower Entrepreneurship).

Under the financing scheme, MARA Sarawak is targeting 228 Bumiputera entrepreneurs with an allocation of RM28.9 million, she said.

As of May 2026, 150 entrepreneurs had received RM21.7 million in MARA financing, including 14 women entrepreneurs who received a combined RM600,000, she said.

“MARA remains committed to empowering Bumiputera women entrepreneurs through guidance, financing and human capital development initiatives to help them compete and stay resilient in the market,” she said.

She added that the programme is expected to create positive impact for women entrepreneurs by connecting them with available opportunities and strengthening MARA’s engagement with the community.

The programme was jointly organised by MARA Sarawak and Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) Sarawak.
