KUCHING: The Sarawak Tong Sim Siong Tng Association marked its 57th year of charitable contributions with an event benefitting 250 recipients at its premises.

Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, attended the event with the residents at the Sarawak Thong Sim Siang Tng here today (Dec 12).

During her speech, Fatimah emphasised the continuous efforts of the association to care for the community’s welfare by assisting those in need during festive seasons, and their activity of distributing essential food aid has been ongoing for the past 57 years.

“This association has been consistently supporting those in need, a remarkable achievement that reflects its enduring commitment to community welfare,” she said.

Additionally, she added that the association has consistently provided essential food aid during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Gawai Dayak, and other festive seasons in Sarawak.

“Regardless of ethnicity or religion, anyone in need receives assistance.

“This inclusivity and generosity are excellent examples of the values upheld by this association, whose members are genuinely kind-hearted and selfless in their efforts to help others.

“In Sarawak, the government, alongside NGOs (non-governmental organisations) like this association, ensures that those in need are not left behind.

“With combined efforts, no Sarawakian will be left hungry or without basic needs,” she said.

She said the association also provides educational assistance to those less fortunate.

“This year, 1,200 students from underprivileged families will benefit from financial aid totalling RM3,600, and this contribution is vital because it addresses not only the need to fill stomachs but also the importance of educating our children.

“As a former teacher, I must emphasise how critical it is to ensure children have access to education, and when children miss school, we worry, as we do not want them to fall behind.

“The association’s efforts to assist underprivileged children in their education are commendable. Ensuring no child goes hungry and misses out on learning is a priority,” she added.

The Batu Lintang SUPP Branch chairman, Sih Hua Tong, and Sarawak Tong Sim Siong Tng chairman, Ng Kok Yean, also attended the event.
