KUCHING: The Miri Amateur Swimming Association (MASA) made a remarkable impression at the 51st Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship, overcoming challenges posed by local facilities to secure commendable results.

Despite the constraints of infrastructure, MASA’s swimmers displayed extraordinary talent and unwavering determination.

Swim coach, Allister Chung, lauded his team for their exemplary performances, drawing particular attention to several standout athletes, including Ethren Ethanael Lim Churn and Liysha Liung Chen Celestin, both of whom achieved impressive medal hauls.

“They are the shining stars of Miri and MASA, reflecting the growing success and potential of our swimmers,”Chung remarked to the Sarawak Tribune.

Although many of the athletes were seasoned competitors, he observed that there were fewer debutants in this particular competition.

Coaches Chung and Mandu Nyungkang led a team of over forty swimmers in the event, their dedication evident in the results.

While the facilities in Miri remain a work in progress, with renovations currently underway for the public indoor pool, the team’s performance continues to be exemplary.

“Although the facilities in Miri leave much to be desired, the ongoing renovations are a step in the right direction,” he added.

Looking ahead, MASA is already setting its sights on the 60th MILO/MAS Malaysia International Age Group (MIAG) Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Kuala Lumpur.

The swim coach also confirmed that only those who meet the qualification criteria would be participating in the forthcoming competition.

MASA’s continued success at the Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship highlights the resolve and potential of Miri’s emerging swimming talent. With the MIAG on the horizon, MASA swimmers are poised for even greater achievements in the months ahead.
