SIBU: The ‘Lan Berambeh Sungkei’, which gathers residents of different faiths and backgrounds here together for a mass breaking-of-fast, will be held on March 23.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee anticipates a larger turnout at the event this year.
It will commence at 5.30 pm at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1, Jalan Bujang Suntong.
He noted that the annual mass potluck picnic-style event has successfully drawn an increasing number of people each year, not only from the town but also from nearby towns such as Sarikei, Kanowit, and more.
“We would like to invite all Sibu residents – Muslim and non-Muslim, to join us for this mass breaking-of-fast on the evening of March 23, and we also hope for fine weather so that more people can participate in this event,” he said.
He said this after attending a briefing with Ramadan bazaar traders here Sunday (Feb 25).
Dr Annuar added that the programme, which has been held since 2015, is a hallmark of racial unity and religious harmony in Sarawak, and Sibu in particular.
“A total of 10,000 people are expected to join us, but I hope this year, it would go beyond that number,” he said.
