KUCHING: Police mounted a large-scale integrated crime prevention operation over the weekend, targeting key areas across the city to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
Codenamed ‘Operasi Bersepadu Cegah Jenayah’, it was conducted from Dec 5 to 6, between 10 pm and 5 am by four senior officers and 32 personnel.
The coordinated operation focused on the Sentral, Padungan and Sekama areas, with teams deployed simultaneously on the ground.
Throughout the operation, police conducted extensive checks, inspecting 235 individuals and 191 vehicles, resulting in 108 summonses being issued for various traffic offences.
Police made two arrests, involving a suspect under Section 379A of the Penal Code and another under Section 381.
Separately, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) carried out a special Op Tapis Khas, inspecting a local entertainment outlet along Jalan Petanak.
The raid led to the arrest of 13 individuals, comprising 10 men and three women, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department inspected 105 vehicles and issued 69 PDRM (K) 257 summonses for various offences detected during the operation.
The operation aimed to reduce crime, curb illicit activities and increase police omnipresence in the city.
It was also part of ongoing efforts to trace wanted individuals, detect suspicious vehicles and maintain public order, with enforcement conducted through roadblocks, crime prevention patrols and inspections at entertainment outlets.
