KUCHING: Maxim Malaysia is distributing free face masks to passengers in Kuching as haze from forest fires in Indonesia continues to affect air quality in the city.
The e-hailing company said the initiative, carried out with its partner drivers, had begun and would run for several days.
The masks are being handed out by active drivers during trips, with 200 masks already distributed.

“We understand that the haze can affect the daily lives and comfort of people in Kuching, especially those who need to travel around the city. Over several days of the initiative, we have already distributed 200 masks,” said Head of Maxim Kuching Tan Boon Kai.
“Through this small initiative, we hope to provide our passengers with additional protection and convenience. We are also grateful to our partner drivers for working with us to distribute masks to those who need them,” he said.
The company said it would continue monitoring Kuching’s air quality and assess whether further assistance was needed based on Air Pollutant Index (API) readings and overall haze conditions.
Maxim said it would also continue looking for ways to support passengers and partner drivers during challenging conditions to keep trips around Kuching safe, reliable and accessible.
