MIRI: More than 75 young patients at Miri Hospital have celebrated the National Day with a special programme organised by Maxim E-hailing.

The initiative, held at the hospital’s pediatric wards, was the fifth consecutive year the company has carried out National Day outreach activities.

According to Maxim E-hailing, five Maxim partner-drivers formed a patriotic convoy from the Maxim Miri office to the hospital, waving the Jalur Gemilang before joining the children for a day of celebration.

The event featured a colouring contest, balloon giveaways, and goodie bags filled with snacks, toys, and flags. Food hampers containing nutritious dry food items were also donated to support patients and their families.

Maxim Miri head Gary Jali Lim said the programme was about more than festive cheer.

“The National Day is not just about waving flags, it’s about instilling unity, pride, and belonging, especially in the younger generation. By engaging with children in hospitals, we bring them joy while also helping them understand the meaning of independence, resilience, and community,” he said in a press release today (Sept 1).

Nurses, parents, and hospital staff expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting the positive emotional impact it had on both the children and their caregivers.

“Celebrating the National Day in the hospital reminds these young ones that they are part of something bigger that they are valued citizens of this nation.

“It’s about planting seeds of patriotism even in the most unexpected places,” said a parent at the event.
