KUCHING: In the spirit of Ramadan, Maxim e-hailing has shared the inspiring story of one of its partner drivers, a veteran in the industry who has faced tremendous challenges but continues to persevere.

Faiz Kassim, 56, was born in Marudi and raised in Miri. He currently works night shifts as a security guard while driving for the e-hailing service during the day. Despite his hard work, he recently found himself homeless due to unforeseen circumstances.

Faiz was adopted at the age of five and began working from a young age to support his family. Over the years, he became known for his dedication and perseverance within Miri’s partner-driver community.

“When I was in high school, I picked up basic mechanic skills from my neighbours and started repairing motorcycles. By the time I was 25, I had become skilled in motorbike repairs,” he recalled. “As I got older, I wanted a more suitable job, and some close friends introduced me to Maxim.”

Faiz has been an e-hailing driver for over four years. He started with a smaller car and gradually upgraded to a more comfortable vehicle. “Maxim has helped me a lot financially, providing flexibility in income and scheduling.”

For the past decade, Faiz has lived alone following the passing of his foster family. At the end of 2024, he lost his home due to rental difficulties and spent five months sleeping at a mosque. “It is a comforting place for me. It brings me peace.”

Recognising his situation, Maxim extended a helping hand by offering him temporary accommodation at their office. During Ramadan, the company also provided him with essential aid, including food and festive treats for Hari Raya.

Despite the hardships, Faiz remains resilient. “It’s not easy to maintain a comfortable life at my age, especially when I tire easily. But my passion for the automotive industry has helped me earn a living.”

With an income of approximately RM1,500 per month from Maxim, Faiz manages to pay for his car loan, fuel and daily expenses. He is now saving up for a downpayment on a new home.

“Driving has become a part of who I am. I feel calmer during long trips, and meeting new people gives me energy. Most passengers are kind and always thank me for driving them safely.”

When Maxim reached out to support him, Faiz was deeply moved. “I felt truly appreciated. Their help meant so much to me. Many companies don’t want to hire older workers, but Maxim gave me an opportunity.”

Maxim remains committed to supporting its partner drivers, especially those in need. The company sees its Ramadan initiative as part of a broader effort to uplift drivers and improve their livelihoods.

Launched in Malaysia in 2019, Maxim started with its first order in Kuantan and has since expanded to all states. The company continues to develop innovative technology to enhance transport and delivery services, making them more modern, accessible, and secure.

The Maxim app for customers and the Taxsee Driver app for drivers are among the top e-hailing platforms, boasting millions of users. The apps are available on Google Play Store, App Store, Huawei AppGallery, GetApps, Oppo App Market, Vivo App Store and Galaxy Store.

For Faiz, the road ahead may still have challenges, but with Maxim’s support and his unwavering determination, he is steering towards a brighter future.
