KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank and Chemsain Konsultant Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to push towards decarbonisation and sustainability initiatives across Malaysia.
The MoU, signed during the recent one-day IIF-Maybank Sustainable Finance Forum 2025, aims to drive collaborative efforts in carbon credit initiatives, develop sectoral decarbonisation roadmaps, and establish industry best practices by leveraging the expertise and networks of both organisations.
The move positions the collaboration as a key driver in supporting Malaysia’s transition towards a low-carbon economy, particularly as regional sustainable finance frameworks continue to evolve.
Maybank’s Group chief sustainability officer Datuk Shahril Azuar Jimin said the partnership underscores the need for structured and inclusive pathways to net zero.
“We must continue to advance our respective sustainability efforts and work towards a structured and inclusive transition to net zero.
“Expanding the sustainable finance market is critical to achieving these goals enabling capital to flow where it can drive the greatest environmental and social impact,” he said.
He added that financial institutions play a crucial role in aligning markets with national and sectoral decarbonisation pathways, especially amid shifting global capital flows and geopolitical developments.
The forum also saw Maybank launch its Sustainability-Linked Loan Programme for eligible commercial banking clients, aimed at supporting businesses at the early stages of their sustainability journey by guiding them to adopt ESG practices with support from partners, including Chemsain.
Held in collaboration with the Institute of International Finance (IIF), the forum gathered over 130 participants comprising financial leaders, corporates, policymakers, investors, and sustainability experts.
Attended by Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, the event focused on transition pathways, climate resilience, and sustainable economic growth, as well as key topics such as COP30 outcomes, energy transition, climate adaptation, and nature-positive strategies.
In his keynote address, Akmal Nasrullah said collaboration between the public and private sectors is vital in turning global climate pledges into measurable progress.
