KUCHING: One of Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) signature community events, the Mayor Walk 2025 is set to return on August 17 to be held at 6:00 am at the MBKS Boulevard.

Its mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, said that since its inception in 2017, the Mayor Walk has grown from a simple community activity into one of Kuching South’s most recognised events promoting health, unity and love for the outdoors.

“This initiative is part of our Youth, Culture and Sports Programme, and continues to reflect our mission – to foster healthy lifestyles, encourage public participation, and build a stronger community.

“The Mayor Walk encourages people to come together either young and old, families and friends to walk side by side in the spirit of togetherness as we reinforce the social bonds that make Kuching South a caring, safe, and inclusive city.

“This year, the walk also reinforces our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals,” he said during a press conference on Mayor Walk 2025 here on Wednesday.

He added that the walk also aligns with MBKS vision of a Healthy and Smart City.

“The Mayor Walk also serves as an informal learning platform, especially for children. As they enjoy the trees, birds and open spaces, they begin to appreciate nature and learn about conservation, responsibility, and outdoor living without even realising it,” he said.

Wee also acknowledged the event’s growth into a large-scale celebration made possible through the support of sponsors and partners and thanked Ibraco Bhd, a loyal supporter since 2018, for contributing RM80,000 worth of t-shirts this year.

He also expressed appreciation to Yayasan Amal Cinta 38, a t-shirt sponsor since 2023; Chagee, for its RM10,000 sponsorship and 600 free drink vouchers worth RM10,140; and Lalamove, a new sponsor contributing RM20,000 and 10,000 branded hand fans.

“Other key sponsors include Premier Echo Sound and Light System Sdn Bhd, which has provided the sound system since 2018, and Revive, which will contribute 10,800 drink cans to keep participants refreshed during the walk.

“I must also express our deepest appreciation to City Joggers Club (CJC), our event partner since the very first Mayor Walk in 2017.

“Your dedication to planning, coordination, and mobilising volunteers is what makes this event run smoothly every year. Your presence is felt not just in logistics, but in the heart and spirit of the event,” he said.

As with previous years, registration will be conducted via the iPeople platform, and only registered participants will be eligible to redeem the official Mayor Walk 2025 t-shirt.

The t-shirt collection will take place at the MBKS Lobby on August 15 (Friday) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and August 16 (Saturday) from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Participants are required to present their iPeople registration QR code during collection.
