PIRAEUS: Kylian Mbappe fired all four goals as Real Madrid survived a late scare to beat Olympiacos 4-3 in Greece, snapping a three-match winless run.
Olympiacos struck first through Chiquinho, but Mbappe took over, scoring twice in two minutes before completing the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history — all inside 6 minutes 42 seconds.
Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Olympiacos in the second half, but Mbappe added his fourth after fine work from Vinicius Junior, taking his tally to nine goals in five matches, now the competition’s leading scorer.
Ayoub El Kaabi set up a tense finish with a late goal, yet Real held on despite a patched-up defence missing several starters.
“It was important to get back to winning ways,” Mbappe said, while coach Xabi Alonso praised the team for “changing the dynamic” after their recent slump.
Real earned their first-ever away win in Greece and moved to fifth in the group with matches against Manchester City, Monaco and Benfica still ahead. – AFP
