PARIS: Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain faced off at the French labour court on Monday in a high-stakes legal dispute over millions of euros in claims and counterclaims.
The France captain is seeking 263 million euros (about RM1.26 billion) from PSG, while the Qatari-owned club demands 440 million euros (around RM2.11 billion) in return.
Both sides presented detailed grievances with financial valuations attached.
PSG’s claim partly stems from a failed 300 million euros (RM1.44 billion) transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal in June 2023, which Mbappé refused. The club also cites lost transfer revenue, damage to its image, and an alleged breach of an agreement following Mbappé’s refusal to move.
Mbappé, 26, was not present at the hearing but was represented by four lawyers. He contends he made no agreement to waive payments and claims PSG misclassified his contract under French law.
The striker argues he was sidelined at the start of the 2023-24 season, forced to train with players being offloaded after rejecting a new deal, and excluded from the pre-season tour of Asia.
After seven seasons and 256 goals with PSG, Mbappé joined Real Madrid on a reported 30 million euros (about RM144 million) annual salary. The tribunal is expected to deliver a verdict on Dec 16. – AFP
