SEOUL: A Kuching South City Council (MBKS) delegation led by Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng visited the Guro Creative Convergence Centre and the Cheon Wang Youth Cultural Centre in Seoul as part of Kuching South’s commitment to advance the UNICEF Child Friendly City Initiative (CFCI).

During the visit, the delegation toured both centres which offer a wide range of innovative and interactive programmes designed to nurture creativity, technical skills, cultural expression, and safety awareness among children and youth.

“Key activities include drone operation and coding, videography and graphic design, music production, media and maker labs, and disaster safety experience programmes.

“Both centres also provide youth cafés, board game zones, auditoriums, and creative studios, offering safe, inclusive spaces for learning and recreation,” the council said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Wee emphasised that the facilities and programmes in Guro City demonstrate how urban spaces can be transformed into vibrant hubs for youth empowerment.

“The Guro Creative Convergence Centre and Cheon Wang Youth Cultural Centre showcase how cities can integrate education, creativity, technology, and cultural activities into youth development.

“Their approach provides valuable insights as Kuching South works towards becoming a ‘Child Friendly City’, ensuring our young people have opportunities to learn, innovate, and thrive,” said Wee.

The visit also opened discussions for youth exchange programmes, collaborative cultural projects, and knowledge-sharing initiatives between Kuching South and Guro.

MBKS Deputy Mayor Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili was also in the delegation.
