KUCHING: Fifty tenants of the KMC Flats received food aid under the Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) Caring Community Programme, reaffirming ongoing efforts to support vulnerable groups in the community.

Its Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, said the initiative reflects MBKS’ commitment to fostering a compassionate, inclusive and resilient society while ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most.

“This handover of food aid is a meaningful initiative that highlights the importance of supporting those in need and strengthening the spirit of togetherness within our community.

“It serves as a reminder that collective care and shared responsibility are fundamental to a thriving society,” he said to reporters after handing over the aid and visiting tenants at the KMC Flats here today.

Wee also expressed appreciation to Everrise Departmental Store Sdn Bhd for its contribution of food items in conjunction with its 32nd anniversary, noting that the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative has helped uplift residents and strengthen community bonds.

“Through programmes such as this, we aim to ease the burden faced by vulnerable groups while promoting a culture of empathy and mutual support among our residents,” he said.

He stressed that MBKS remains committed to ensuring no one is left behind, particularly residents in areas such as the KMC Flats, and will continue to enhance outreach efforts through collaboration with various stakeholders.

“Let us continue to work together in strengthening our community, supporting one another, and creating a city that is not only live able, but also compassionate for all,” said Wee.
