KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has contributed treatment chairs and waiting chairs to the Emergency Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) to enhance comfort for patients and family members awaiting treatment.

MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the contribution, made through the council’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, comprised seven treatment chairs and 10 waiting chairs with a total value of RM12,000.

According to him, the contribution was made possible through public concern and swift responses from donors after he received a request from the hospital regarding the need for such facilities.

“This contribution could only be realised with the support of donors.

“Sometimes things that seem simple, like chairs, can actually make a big difference,” he said after the handover ceremony at the hospital on Monday (Dec 22).

Wee described the contribution as a meaningful gift in conjunction with the Christmas celebration, while stressing that there are still many aspects of public hospitals that require improvement, not only in terms of facilities for patients, but also for doctors, nurses and patients’ family members.

He added that the contribution was made possible through the cooperation of several private companies that came forward to support community welfare efforts through CSR initiatives.

Among the companies involved were Katimas Sdn Bhd, Acute Project Sdn Bhd, Sharing Planet Sdn Bhd, Megastanda Sdn Bhd, Ori Pasti Ori (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, Alfresco (Kuching) Sdn Bhd, HS Credit Corporation Sdn Bhd and Wan Li Wan Welding Works.

Meanwhile, SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung expressed her appreciation to MBKS and the donors for the contribution.

She said SGH is a hospital for all and continues to require ongoing support from various parties to further improve the treatment environment and technological facilities.

“Although there is an annual allocation from the federal government, the hospital’s actual needs are very large.

“Small contributions from the community can make a big impact on patients’ comfort.”
