KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) made a site inspection and distributed toilet rules stickers to six coffee shops at the Tabuan Tranquility commercial centre here yesterday. MBKS Deputy Mayor, Hilmi Othman was present to distribute the stickers to shop operators.

He also inspected the toilets’ condition of the coffee shops which were under the council’s jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Othman expressed his opinion on the idea of having one mayor for the city which was raised during the City of Unity Workshop held here recently.

The Deputy Mayor said that it had been years since the city was administered by two mayors as established by the state government.

He added, “The two mayors have been carrying out their responsibility since the establishment and the reason for us to change something that has been serving the city well, I don’t know what the reason is.” Othman disclosed that the issue which was raised during the workshop would be considered by the state government. “This is very sensitive issue and this is my personal view.

Things have been good already. “Having one or two mayors doesn’t matter, but all this while, everything has been well unless things are not well done for both city councils. If that is so, then there is a need for us to change to a new system of having one mayor or so forth. Otherwise, there is no justification at all,” he pointed out.
