KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) marked Father’s Day today by distributing ‘shoutao’ (longevity buns) to fathers and shoppers at Stutong Community Market and Kenyalang Market.
The meaningful gesture, led by MBKS Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, and councillors aimed to recognise the quiet dedication and sacrifices of fathers, while promoting family bonds as part of the council’s ‘Age-Friendly Cities’ programme.
“Many times, we remember our mothers on Mother’s Day, but we must also remind ourselves that our fathers, too, have made countless sacrifices for us.
“Today is a small gesture to honour their strength, love and commitment,” said Wee in a statement.
Symbolising health and long life, the ‘shoutao’ distribution not only expressed gratitude to fathers but also served as a cultural reminder of filial piety.
In the statement, MBKS hopes the effort will encourage younger generations to value and respect their parents, in line with its vision of fostering a caring and inclusive city.
“This Father’s Day, let us all take a moment to appreciate the quiet heroes in our lives – our fathers,” Wee added.
