KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) launched its 2026 Chinese New Year music video today, marking the third consecutive year of this cultural initiative that has become a cherished tradition for the city.

The launch event was officiated by Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng in the presence of Deputy Mayor Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili, councillors, and members of the press.

The music video was presented as a celebration of harmony, unity, and togetherness in Kuching South, reflecting the city’s diverse and inclusive character.

The music video aims to capture the true spirit of Kuching South as a diverse, inclusive, and united city.

According to Wee, the production carries a strong message that Chinese New Year celebrations in Kuching are shared by everyone, regardless of race, background, or culture.

“Over the past three years, this initiative has grown into a special tradition for MBKS,” he said.

“It shows our continuous effort to use creativity and culture as a platform to promote unity, understanding, and positive values within our community.”

This year’s production is special with the participation of not only the Chinese community but also Malay and Bumiputera performers.

The video features exclusively Sarawakian talent, including local singers, dancers, and performers who came together to create the production.

“This is a powerful symbol of harmony in action,” officials stated.

“It shows that unity in Kuching South is not just a slogan, but something we practise and live every day.”

The collaboration highlights the rich creative talents present in Kuching and Sarawak, demonstrating the beauty of unity and the strength that comes from working together.

As the community welcomes the Year of the Horse, which symbolises strength, perseverance, and progress, Wee expressed hope that the music video will spread festive cheer and promote mutual respect.

“May this year inspire us to strengthen our bonds, deepen our understanding of one another, and build an even more harmonious society,” Wee said.

“We hope this music video will remind us that our greatest strength lies in our unity.”

The music video is not only to promote unity but showcased the ART and markets around Kuching South area, in line with ‘Love Your Markets’ campaign.

“We are trying to bring awareness to the people about the ART, and also to (invite them) come back to the markets,” Wee said.
