KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has mobilised aid efforts to support 28 families affected by the fire at Lorong 10, Kampung Tabuan Dayak here, on Thursday (Feb 20).

Upon receiving news of the incident, he immediately visited the site to assess the situation and coordinate relief measures.

Recognising the urgent needs of the victims, MBKS stepped in to provide essential assistance, ensuring that the displaced families received immediate support.

Understanding the importance of education continuity, Wee personally accompanied the children of the affected families to purchase school uniforms, shoes, and stationery, ensuring they could resume their studies without disruption.

In addition, he worked swiftly to secure temporary accommodation for the victims.

While the families eventually found alternative housing, he expressed his gratitude to Regal Group Tropic City Enrichment Hub for their generous offer to provide shelter.

MBKS also facilitated the transfer of the victims to their new residences, ensuring a smooth transition.

Wee further extended support by providing daily necessities, including toiletries, detergent, and other essential household items, to ease the burden on the affected families.

He also commended the collective efforts of various agencies and individuals who came forward to assist in the crisis, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Sarawak Welfare Department (Jabatan Kebajikan Sarawak), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Sarawak Energy (SESCO), All Saints Church, community leaders, MBKS Councillors, and the SUPP Batu Lintang Branch.

“The swift response and unwavering support from these agencies and the community reflect the strong Sarawakian spirit of unity and mutual aid in times of need,” said Wee.
