KUCHING: Two existing badminton courts at MBKS Sports Village will be converted into pickleball courts, as part of a pioneering initiative by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to meet the demand for the increasingly popular sport.
The announcement was made following a site visit by Kuching South Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, along with Councillors Chai Ju Loon, Albert Tay and Andy Tan, to the pickleball court at Tabuan Laru Family Club, today.

According to Wee, this initial step was taken to gauge public response before any large-scale implementation is carried out.
“We are starting small to study the demand. If usage is high and community feedback is positive, we will consider adding more courts,” he said.
He added that MBKS is always striving to provide recreational facilities that are in line with a healthy lifestyle and the current needs of the community.
“As more and more individuals become more health-conscious and exercise regularly, it is important that we provide infrastructure that supports this change,” he remarked.
During the same visit, MBKS also held discussions with representatives of Tabuan Laru Family Club to organise the Mayor’s Pickleball Cup in conjunction with the Kuching Festival 2025, in an effort to introduce and promote this sport to locals and visitors.
MBKS will continue to prioritise community well-being through inclusive and people-oriented recreational planning.
