KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will continue to closely monitor the flooding situation within its jurisdiction, particularly with the anticipated high tide tomorrow (Jan 31).
MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said he, along with several councillors, will inspect flood-prone areas under MBKS to assess the situation.
“We will be going around to identify low-lying areas that could be at risk during the high tide.
“So far, as of last night, the situation under MBKS remains under control, but we are closely monitoring it.
“Of course, if assistance is needed elsewhere, we are always ready to lend a helping hand,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters here today (Jan 30).
Wee noted that areas such as Tabuan Melayu have been identified as flood hotspots under MBKS’s jurisdiction.
He also called on consultants and project engineers to ensure that ongoing infrastructure projects do not contribute to flooding.
“If flooding still occurs, it raises questions about the profession, particularly the role of professional engineers and architects.
“These are the factors we continue to monitor.
“A project (should not just be) completed and forgotten—it requires ongoing oversight,” he said.
