KUCHING: The Padungan Garden public toilet is scheduled for an upgrade under the BP1 allocation, in line with Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) ongoing efforts to enhance public infrastructure that supports tourism, heritage conservation, and sustainable urban development.
A site handover ceremony was held today (July 2) in the presence of the Mayor of MBKS, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Deputy Mayor Dato Zaeidi Suhaili, MBKS Councillors Chai Ju Long, Judy Kho, Eric Tay, as well as senior council officers, to mark the commencement of the upgrading works.
Wee emphasised the council’s dedication to balancing heritage preservation with future growth.
“This toilet upgrading project may seem small, but it plays a big role in elevating Padungan’s image as a tourist-friendly and sustainable destination,” he said.
The project, situated in the heart of Padungan, one of Kuching’s oldest town landscape is scheduled to begin immediately following the handover.
“Providing clean, accessible, and well-maintained amenities is considered essential to welcoming tourists and ensuring a positive visitor experience,” Wee added.
Furthermore, the project reflects MBKS’s broader vision of building a liveable, inclusive, and environmentally-conscious city that offers quality services and infrastructure, particularly in areas of significant historical and tourism value.
