KUCHING: McDonald’s Malaysia hosted a special Teachers’ Day celebration at its Metrocity Drive-Thru outlet, honouring more than 70 teachers from SJKC Chung Hua 4 for their dedication and unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds.

The event forms part of McDonald’s Malaysia’s nationwide Teachers’ Day campaign, which spans the entire month of May and reaches over 300 schools across the country, marking the ninth consecutive year the company has organised the initiative.

“Teachers like those from SJKC Chung Hua 4 have a lasting impact on their students and communities.

“Kuching is known for its close community bonds and strong appreciation for culture and education.

“That’s why it’s such a meaningful place for us to continue our Teachers’ Day celebrations.

“This gathering and our small contribution to their school is one way we’re showing our gratitude for the tireless dedication they bring into the classroom every day,” said the Managing Director and local operating partner of McDonald’s Malaysia, Datuk Azmir Jaafar.

The celebration also featured lively activities, interactive games, and a festive atmosphere that allowed teachers to relax and enjoy themselves.

Meanwhile, expressing his gratitude, Simon Pui, Principal of SJKC Chung Hua 4, said that the celebration is a beautiful way to welcome the new academic year.

“We are very grateful to McDonald’s Malaysia for making this day special for our teachers.

“As we can see, there are many games and interactive activities that bring joy to everyone.

“This makes our education journey even more beautiful and inspires our next generation to be more successful,” he said while talking to reporters.

He described the first partnership as a memorable experience that allowed teachers to relax and enjoy the moment despite their busy schedules.

“This is the first time we have collaborated with McDonald’s Malaysia, and it has been a truly memorable experience.

“Despite the busy morning schedules, today’s celebration allowed us to relax and enjoy the moment, and we hope that McDonald’s and our school can continue to maintain a good relationship to make education more colourful and long-lasting,” he said.

As part of the event, McDonald’s Malaysia presented a RM5,000 contribution to SJKC Chung Hua 4, specifically to enhance the teachers’ room, providing a more comfortable and functional space for educators.

This contribution is part of a larger nationwide effort, with McDonald’s Malaysia allocating a total of RM40,000 to selected schools across the country to improve facilities for teachers.

A few teachers from SJKC Chung Hua 4 also shared their feelings and thoughts about the celebration at McDonald’s.

Lim Cher Woee

LIM CHER WOEE, 42, First Senior Assistant (Administration):

I feel very happy to be celebrated like this because all of us are very relaxed today compared to when we are at the school, where we have to be serious as we are educating the children.

The motivation for me to cope with challenges in becoming a teacher is that we need to be friends with our students so that it is easier for them to show interest in learning.

I hope that my students are happy while being taught by me because if a teacher is happy, students will automatically become happy as well.

Valerie Elnicia

VALERIE ELNICIA, 23, Teacher:

I am very touched to be celebrated like this because we cannot celebrate ourselves; it is other people who recognise our work and dedication.

Despite the challenges that I face in being a teacher, I still like it is as it is our responsibility to teach them no matter what.
