KUCHING: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) yesterday (july 27) launched the inaugural Sarawak edition of the Converged Telecommunications Policy and Regulations (CTPR) Masterclass 2026.
The five day programme, held at the Pullman Hotel Kuching from July 27 to 31, was officiated by Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
Organised by MCMC in collaboration with Multimedia University (MMU), GSMA and MMU CNERGY, the masterclass aims to strengthen digital policy and regulatory capabilities while equipping policymakers and regulators with practical knowledge and international best practices to address emerging technologies.
Carrying the theme “Enabling the Next Wave of Connectivity and Multimedia: From 5G and AI to Satellite and Beyond – Policies for Future Digital Growth”, the programme brings together regulators, government officials, policymakers, telecommunications operators, technology companies, academics and industry professionals from Malaysia and ASEAN member states.
Participants will attend executive learning sessions and discussions led by regional and international experts on converged regulation, artificial intelligence governance, Open RAN, 6G, satellite communications, intelligent spectrum management, cybersecurity, data governance, infrastructure economics, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), and sustainable digital transformation.
According to MCMC, the masterclass is designed to help policymakers and regulators develop technology neutral, future ready regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation, attract investment and strengthen consumer confidence.
MCMC said the inaugural Sarawak edition reflects the state’s growing role in Malaysia’s digital transformation, supported by continued investments in digital infrastructure, connectivity and innovation.
It also demonstrates the shared commitment of the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government to strengthen regulatory excellence, develop digital talent and accelerate inclusive digital transformation.
Since its introduction in 2015, the CTPR Masterclass has trained nearly 400 regulators, policymakers, government officials, academics and industry professionals from Malaysia and across ASEAN, contributing to stronger institutional capacity and regional policy collaboration.
Following the Sarawak programme, the CTPR Masterclass 2026 will continue with sessions in Kuala Lumpur and Penang as part of efforts to position Malaysia as a regional centre of excellence in digital policy, communications regulation and leadership.
