CYBERJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has urged the public to immediately stop sharing, forwarding, or uploading any images or videos linked to the tragic death of a 16-year-old female student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.

The commission expressed its condolences to the victim’s family, and called on Malaysians to act responsibly and ethically.

“MCMC urges all parties to act responsibly and refrain from sharing, forwarding, or uploading any content, including images or videos, that depict the victim, other students, or the scene of the incident,” it said.

The commission also advised that if such content has already been posted online, it should be deleted without delay to prevent further emotional distress to the victim’s family and disruption to police investigations.

MCMC stressed that the spread of such sensitive content violates the privacy and dignity of those involved and may interfere with the ongoing investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police.

The public are also reminded that legal consequences could follow.

MCMC said that those who share such materials may be prosecuted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which deals with the improper use of network facilities or services.

“Disseminating images or videos of the victim is not only a violation of privacy and dignity, but also undermines the investigation currently being conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police,” it added.

MCMC concluded by urging Malaysians to be mindful of their actions online and not contribute to the spread of harmful or graphic content, especially involving minors or grieving families.

The tragic incident, which has shocked the nation, is currently under investigation by authorities.
