MIRI: Sarawak Day was made especially meaningful for 227 individuals who rolled up their sleeves to donate blood during the Sarawak Day 722 blood donation campaign here yesterday.

The event recorded a total of 302 registrations, with 227 successful donors, including 29 first-time donors.

This reflected the strong support of Miri residents for life-saving humanitarian efforts.

Jointly organised by ten local youth associations, with the support of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri and the Miri Hospital Blood Bank, the turnout far exceeded the initial target of 150 donors.

Also present to show their full support were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Miri Mayor and Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii, both of whom also personally took part in the blood donation.

The campaign not only helped replenish the Miri Hospital Blood Bank but also reflected the unity, compassion and proactive spirit of Sarawakians in making Sarawak Day truly impactful.

In addition to the main blood donation activity, the campaign featured live demonstrations on emergency aid, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Visitors also benefited from free health screenings, including checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, bone health and breast examinations for early breast cancer detection.
