KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday fined a mechanic RM5,000, in default 14 months in prison, for deliberately damaging his ex-girlfriend’s Perodua Aruz vehicle last Saturday.
Boon Soon Fok, 26, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter.
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by intentionally damaging the 47-year-old woman’s vehicle, causing a loss of about RM1,500.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, or a fine, or both.
Based on the case facts, the victim was at home in BDC when Boon, her ex-boyfriend, arrived in an angry state and entered the compound at around 8:15 pm.
He then struck the front and side windows of her Perodua Aruz with a helmet, causing them to shatter.
Frightened and feeling threatened, the victim lodged a police report and it led to Boon’s arrest later the same day in BDC.
Police also seized several items belonging to the man, including a Cruiser 3 motorcycle helmet and a meat cleaver.
Investigation found that Boon had used both the helmet and knife to damage the victim’s vehicle.
