MIRI: A 21-year-old mechanic lost his life after sustaining serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision yesterday (Aug 6).
The accident, involving a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Saga, happened at the traffic light junction of Jalan Pujut 7.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim, who was a passenger in the Saga, succumbed to his injuries at 12.30 pm while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital emergency unit.
He added that they received a police report on the accident at around 5.30 am.
“Preliminary investigation found that Hilux driven by a 39-year-old local man had collided with the left side of the Saga driven by a 43-year-old man travelling from Permyjaya towards Pujut 7.
“The impact left the victim critically injured, while the driver sustained serious injuries to his left arm. The pick-up truck driver escaped unhurt,” he said.
Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
