KOTA KINABALU: Media practitioners are reminded to prioritise accuracy and credibility over the drive to publish news quickly.

Chief Minister’s Department Media and Communications director Datuk Lucy Irene Yong said that in today’s era of information overload, the media must serve as the public’s primary reference by providing accurate and verified facts.

“Although the media’s role today demands speed, it must not compromise on accuracy,” she said, speaking on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with Sabah media practitioners last night.

According to Lucy, the Sabah State Government highly appreciates the media’s role in conveying government policies effectively and relaying the people’s concerns to the authorities for action.

To facilitate this role, she assured that her office would continue to disseminate official government information promptly and accurately, further strengthening cooperation with the media.

The event was attended by more than 200 media practitioners, including Sabah Journalists Association president Mariah Doksil and Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association chairman Datuk Jimmy Goh. – BERNAMA
