SIMANGGANG: Members of the media are urged to shift from the old label of Sri Aman to a more positive and progressive narrative in line with the rapid development the area is now experiencing.

Sri Aman Division Resident, Mahra Salleh, said the media plays an important role in changing past perceptions of Sri Aman.

“In the past, Sri Aman was seen as less prominent due to the lack of publicity on its potential and local development.

“In this regard, I call on the media to continue highlighting achievements, economic opportunities, and success stories of the local community so that the old perception can be replaced with a positive and progressive narrative,” he said.

He said this during the Engagement Session with Sarawak Media and Strategic Partners (Social Media) for the Sri Aman Division, held at the Sri Aman Division office of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Wisma SADA, today.

The session was chaired by Director of UKAS, Awang Putrayusrie Awang Reduan.

According to Awang Putrayusrie, the role of the media as a key channel for conveying Sarawak government policies has become increasingly important – especially as Sarawak moves towards achieving developed and high-income status by 2030 through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

UKAS itself, he said, practises an open approach to feedback, suggestions, and complaints from the public to improve the quality of information delivery in Sarawak.

On the flood of information and fake news in the digital era, he stated that the responsibility of official media such as the Malaysian Information Department, UKAS, and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is becoming increasingly critical as key stakeholders and guardians of integrity when engaging with the community.

Also present were Sri Aman Division UKAS supervising officer, Zaidil Ripin; Sri Aman district information officer, Safariza Bujang; and RTM Sri Aman managing officer, Senah Ukong.
