PANTU: The proposed construction of a Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) here is crucial to ensure students in the district have easier and more comfortable access to secondary education.

The proposal continues to gain momentum following an official meeting involving Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie with several related agencies to examine the requirements and implementation steps for the project.

“The construction of a secondary school in Pantu will not only make it easier for children in this area to pursue their secondary education but will also serve as a catalyst for human capital development and improve the wellbeing of the local community,” she said when chairing the meeting at the Pantu District Office here on Wednesday (March 11).

Also present at the meeting was Pantu District officer Raca Mulong.

Among the key matters discussed were the urgent need for a secondary school in Pantu, proposed suitable locations for the project, the provision of supporting infrastructure and follow-up actions required from the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, Raca said that Pantu is a new district that was officially declared on Oct 8, 2021, which has since seen an increase in the number of residents and students requiring secondary education facilities in the area.

He noted that students from Pantu currently have to commute to secondary schools in neighbouring districts, posing challenges in terms of travel distance and transportation facilities.
